IGGS collects 120 stories for 120 years

Ipswich Girls' Grammar School is celebrating 120 years in 2012. To commemorate the event we are collecting 120 stories about the school from past and present students, teachers and parents - one for every year from 1892 to 2012.

For information on the project and how you can be involved, visit the IGGS website and look under community for 120 stories. The more varied the stories, the more interesting the final publication will be.

Fortitude Valley SS 150th celebrations

The Fortitude Valley State School in Brookes Street with close to a thousand pupils in its heyday and now one of Brisbane’s smallest schools, is about to be turned upside down in search of some time capsules.

The 150^th anniversary of the school’s beginning on 4^th March 1861 in a shed near the corner of Ann and Brunswick streets, the site of today’s Royal George hotel, is fast approaching and the sesquicentenary committee seeks the general community’s help to locate two time capsules—one buried about 1950/51, the other in the 1970s. No record of their interment has been found to date.

As part of the “Back to the Valley” celebrations we also desperately need to locate past pupils and teachers for an invitation to morning tea and a commemorative photo shoot on Friday 4^th March 2011 at the school. Pupils and teachers will mark the occasion by the unveiling of a plaque commemorating 150 years of education in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.
