Seminar: Displaced persons - May 2011

The National Archives of Australia, Brisbane Office will be holding a free seminar on Displaced Persons.  This seminar will look at the history and consequences of mass movement of displaced people in the world and the changes they brought to Australia.  After World War II, Australia's intake of displaced (stateless) persons was second only to the United States of America.  Find out about their stories and the programs that supported them to make Australia home.

Starting at 10am and runs for approximately one hour and includes a complimentory morning tea.

Seminar: Commemorating the Anzacs

The National Archives of Australia - Brisbane Office is holding a free seminar to Commemorate the Anzacs.  The seminar looks at some of the history behind the Anzac legend and records of a few individuals.  As well we look at the origin and meanings of the rituals which are held on Anzac Day.

The National Archives of Australia hold most of the Service records relating to all the Service Personnel for World War I and have been digitised and can be viewed on the NAA database on line at no cost.

 The seminar will be held at the Brisbane Office:

on Saturday 16 April & Wednesday 20 April starting at 10am - the seminar will run for approximately an hour and there is a complimentary morning tea.

Meet the State Director - Morning Tea @ National Archives

In December the National Archives of Australia, Brisbane office is holding a morning tea for the public to meet the State Director, David Swift.  This is an opportunity for people to find out what the National Archives is doing, especially in making valuable records available to the public.  Also feedback from the public is welcome on how to make the services provided by the Archives better for the clients.

The morning tea is an informal event and all people are welcome to attend. 

To be held on Wednesday 15th December 2010 and again on Saturday 18th December 2010.  There is no cost to attend this event.  Time is from 10am for approximately 1 hour.

Along the track - Railway Records in the National Archives

The National Archives of Australia at Cannon Hill is holding a free seminar on railway related records held at the Archives.

The bulk of material relates to the formation and operation of the Commonwealth railways in Australia which included South Australia and Tasmania.

Discover the historical background of the development of railways in Australia and the role that the Commonwealth Government has played in all States.

To be held on Wednesday 17 November and again on Saturday 20 November , starting at 10am and running for about an hour.  A compilmentary morning tea will be provided.
