Pineapple supreme, 1959

Harvesting a pineapple crop at the Hallett brothers' farm at Brookfield, in Brisbane's west. In the 1950s pineapple harvesting and canning provided migrants with backbreaking but financially rewarding seasonal employment. One Brisbane cannery processed up to 600 000 pineapples a day and employed up to 1600 workers during the summer months.This photograph comes from the collection of the National Archives of Australia. It should be cited as NAA: A12111, 1/1959/16/254.You may save or print this image for research and study. The pineapple photo strikes a poignant chord. I have several photos of the Moggill Harris and Westaway family pineapple fields taken just before they were recently developed in to residential housing. I will upload when I can. I see in the tag list that a different notice has Queenland without the s. I imagine typos in tags will be quite common. We'll have to think about whether to address this in design of Nnub at all, i.e spell checking etc. Best wishes, Margot
