18th Australasian Irish Studies conference

"The 18th Australasian Irish Studies conference:  The Irish in Australia 1788 to the present" will be hosted by the National Museum of Australia in Canberra from 1 to 3 July.

A variety of speakers from across Australia and Ireland will examine the influence of Irish culture, religion, language and music in shaping the Australian identity.

Sessions include:

  • Death or Liberty, Irish political prisoners transported to Australia, 1788-1868
  • Beating a path to the door – the Irish welcome to Queensland

  • Inter-war Irish immigrant domestic servants to South Australia
