The Courier 14 May 1861: Courier Mail 14 May 2011

Queensland's first daily,The Courier commenced 14 May 1861. A supplement in today's Courier Mail 14 May 2011 provides from Rod Kirkpatrick a background to its launch together with the first page of the first edition.

You can check the whole edition at http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper  free  Australian newspapers online to 1954.

You can check the titles of what the State Library of Queensland holds on the state's newspapers using the catalogue http://onesearch.slq.qld.gov.au/  Use the name of the place for which you want to find a newspaper and the word, newspapers.

The Library holds an extensive collection of historical  papers dating from the 19th Century from Barcaldine to Brisbane; Cairns to Clermont and so on.
