How to conduct successful oral histories

Bob Mitchell – Mr Memory Man – will demonstrate his oral history methods at Redcliffe Library, Monday 26 April, 10.00 to 11.30

In this session participants will gain an insight into preparing questions, conducting an interview and the use of techniques such as mind mapping.

Examining the use of the five senses, and his famous “Box of Tricks”, Bob Mitchell will examine the reliability of memory and look at sorting fact from fiction.

Other topics covered include privacy and copyright issues, post-interview tasks such as logging and transcribing and ideas on what to do with the completed interview.

Bob is a historian and a long standing member of the Oral History Association of Australia.  He interviews older folk recording their life stories on audio CDs as keepsakes and is an expert in reminiscence and story telling.
