QFHS Irish Interest Group

Meetings are held on the second Saturday of the even-numbered months at the QFHS Library & Resource Centre, 58 Bellevue AvenueGAYTHORNE at 10:00am.All QFHS members & first time visitor with an interest in researching family who migrated from Ireland are welcome to attend. Some meetings will include an invited guest speaker, with specialist knowledge, to talk on topics and Irish history that will greatly assist with your own specific research.Another important reason of meetings is to share already acquired knowledge and to spend some time discussing details of each other's research. The group's objective is to help each other, particularly anyone who is having difficulty.

Convict records from the National Archives of Ireland available in Queensland

An online index of various Irish convict records can be searched via the National Archives of Ireland website -   http://www.nationalarchives.ie/topics/transportation/search01.html

The database indexes the following records:

  • Transportation Registers 1836-1857
  • Prisoners' Petitions and Cases 1788-1836
  • State Prisoners' Petition 1798-1799
  • Convict Reference Files 1836-1856; 1865-1868
  • Male Convict Register 1842-1847

 The State Library of Queensland hold copies of the original documents on microfilm.

Convicted: August 1848

Sentence: 10 years transportation

Ship: Mount Stewart Elphinstone

Transported: Arrived New South Wales on 31 October 1849

Died: 15 July 1905, Torwood, Brisbane. Buried in Toowong Cemetery
